It's ridiculous how now that they report she had drugs in her system upon her death, that all of a sudden everyone is turning on her. If any of you stepped outside your perfect judgmental ignorant little bubbles, and, I don't know, learned about anything other than yourselves, you would know a few things. First off, Carrie endured plenty of other issues her entire life outside addiction, that i guarantee if ANY of you had even an ounce of the same in your life, you'd be getting high as well. Secondly, addiction is a DISEASE. There is not one addict in the world that goes from productive non-addict member of society to full-blown addiction overnight. No one wakes up one morning and says "hey, I think I'll throw my life away and shoot heroin." It can happen to anyone, the best of anyone, at any point in their life. Sobriety doesn't mean safe; waking up at dawn one day sober or 40 years sober can both end in a relapse by sundown. None of us know what her last days were. As far as we knew, she was clean. But just like any relapse, something could've snapped in her, and it happened. Odds are, with her past usage, and her age, a relapse would most certainly contribute to death. If her death had been the result of a suicide, and the coroner found that her hormone levels had gone off the radar and her manic-depressive tendencies forced her to do it, would you be so insensitive and turn your back on her? Or if she had any other incurable disease, and she was doing well, and then a flare up killed her? If she was your mother, your sister, your wife, your daughter, would you turn your back on her? All of you laughing at her, even with her addiction and psychological issues, she was more successful on her day off in bed than you are on your best day. She said it herself, that if you can get someone to make you into a Pez dispenser, or a shampoo bottle, or a sex doll, or to be put in the DSM-IV Abnormal Psych book–DO IT! I mourn her every single day, because even though she was an addict, had psychological problems, and was absolutely self-knowingly crazy, she was and will always be my hero. Not for her psychological issues, even though I have suffered depression my whole life. Not for her addiction, even though I am 652 days sober myself. For how she chose to never hide behind her problems, to laugh about them in such a unique way, and owned them like a beautiful pair of heels.
