The MV-1 is a purpose built handicap-accessible taxi conceived in 2011. Its original manufacturer, Vehicle Production Group, shut down in 2013, but AM General stepped in to acquire VPG’s assets and has restated MV-1 production. The MV-1 has been approved for use as an NYC Yellowcab, and is the first purpose-built taxi to gain such approval since the iconic Checker Marathon. I didn’t see any of these in service as yellowcabs, but several of them can be found in the outer boroughs in service with taxi operators. This one was in Far Rockaway (Queens).
