2010 Ncaa Bracket- Sweet Sixteen Predictions

Day Two is where General Managers really earn their money. Sorry about that, I left Williamsburg for two weeks of vacation before the start of school. Mary’s College in the Sweet 16 this weekend, but the Gaels have set the early bar for upsets.
Connecticut is the better team and has more weapons. They cruised rather easily through the West region to reach the Final Four. As for Michigan State, they managed to slip past USC and rallied back against Kansas before stunning Louisville in a game that wasn’t even close.

The Bruins ripped this one away from the Bulldogs. UCLA scored 11 points to barely pull out a win. This was heartbreaking – remember when Adam Morrison cried after the game?!? What a wild finish. Definitely a top game of the past 10 years.

Last night the Rams selected Robert Quinn, a defensive end from North Carolina. He is a pass rushing specialist that should help the defense and certainly increases the depth. After not expecting Quinn to fall to them and maybe taking a position of less need than others it would lead you to believe that the Rams will be really focusing on need tonight. So what should the Rams to be looking to do and who should the Rams be focusing on at this point? Here is a look at some of the options and strategies.

One hard to find game on the March Madness schedule 2010 is at around 5 p.m. EST. Butler will take on UTEP, in a game featuring two potential sleepers in the West region. The game won’t be on CBS, and is only available on CBS’s cable channel.

So, I guess I would pick some random game started by Sandy Koufax from 1955-1957 at Ebbets Field. I would love to see first hand how hard he threw and how big the curve really was, even if he didn’t find the strike zone with it. And I’d love to see a Major League game in Brooklyn and get into arguments with the fans if Willie, Mickey or the Duke was the best CF in NYC.

For Villanova, the loss completes a disastrous end to what looked like a championship season. A 20-1 start and No. 2 ranking gave way to a 3-6 finish, as the Robert Morris escape only delayed the inevitable. Scottie Reynolds ended his career with a 4-for-25 NCAA tournament, and couldn’t get to the free throw line to make up for it this time.

On what Archer does differently from Archer: “I would say he’s a little more athletic. Jake was a more in between the tackles guy, more of a run you over than run by you guy. He has a good as arm as Jake, I think his deep ball is a little bit better in terms of consistency so I think maybe being able to move and to throw the ball down the field with a little more consistency is maybe the difference.

There’s nothing glamorous about the degradation and destruction of animals and people and that’s what thug culture is all about. I understand about being proud of where you come from and not wanting to forget your roots. But it would be wonderful if Vick evolved into the person who honored his roots by being a positive force in his community and one who no longer engaged in deviant behavior.

2010 Ncaa College Basketball Tournament Sweet 16 Bracket Update

They have a lot of young guys and this older gentleman to my left [points to C.J. The Wildcats are currently on an 11 game winning streak and are still undefeated in Big East Conference play this season.
Unbeaten Cincinnati (14-0, ranked 25th) meets up with crosstown rival Xavier.Rashad Bishop, Larry Davis, Darnell Wilks and Biggie McClain all have worked toward resurrecting the Bearcats’ basketball program, but they have yet to taste victory over Xavier in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout. If Bishop and his classmates lose again this year, they will be the first UC class to drop four straight to the Musketeers. The 14-0 start to the season is the 3rd best start ever in UC history, and their best overall beginning since 1998-’99.

It was Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed, a street fight till the end. Pitt was looking for its first berth in the Final Four since 1941, while Villanova its first since the Cinderella championship run in 1985.

“We asked him who he compares himself to and he said Deron Williams. But you never want to put a lot of pressure on a kid. We aren’t looking for him to make an impact now.

Notre Dame senior forward Devereaux Peters was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 7.2 rebounds to accompany her 11.6 points, and junior guard Natalie Novosel led the Irish with 15.2 points and was the conference’s Most Improved Player.

One hard to find game on the March Madness schedule 2010 is at around 5 p.m. EST. Butler will take on UTEP, in a game featuring two potential sleepers in the West region. The game won’t be on CBS, and is only available on CBS’s cable channel.

On the defensive line: “I expect a great deal of leadership. I think we have two of our co-captains on the defensive line in Sean Lissemore and Adrian Tracy and they’re already good players and good leaders. I’ll look to them and then on the defensive line we have a lot depth, we’ve got good players so I’d look for us to play a lot of people there.

Brian Joura also returns after signing a new contract extension similar to the one A-Rod signed: 10 years, 275 cents. With his newfound financial security, we here at ACSEC feel that Brian’s best work is still ahead of him and we’re happy he’ll be around to share it with us. We think.

This game will be extremely close as well, but I think Lawson has been playing as well as anyone in the country over the past month or so. He is just so quick and strong, and he has greatly improved his outside shooting. It’s hard to find a hole in his game.

College Basketball 2009 Elite Eight Badly Struggles In 2010

That bowl is always a shootout and this year should be no different. He had a good game, he threw for 300 or better and made some good decisions. Villanova came into the 2010-11 season ranked No. 1 in the Big East by Athlon Sports.
Seton Hall junior Nicole Emery had 14 points and freshman Kandice Green added 11 points and 6 rebounds as Seton Hall (15-8, 3-7 Big East) suffered a frustrating loss to Villanova, 54-51, on Saturday at Walsh Gym in South Orange. Villanova (15-8, 7-2 Big East) was led by Laura Kurz with 18 points and 9 rebounds.

How about up North? Purdue is the surprise leader in a Big 10 collision that includes Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Indiana (though those recruiting violations are a problem), and then Ohio State on the outside. Can the Boilermakers stay on top? With an impressive week that included victories over the Spartans and Badgers, they’ve shown they can and will take it to the big-shots of Big 10 basketball. Stay with the leader here: Purdue takes it.

Jake Emen: Yes, as the resident boxing-head, I did watch and happily pay for the PPV event between Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton. It was a great, exciting fight with a dramatic and memorable finish. This fight is projected to have been bought by some 1.4 million people, making it one of the highest grossing boxing events ever. So what does boxing need? More of this! Good, exciting matchups. Fighters with personality. And most importantly, a place where they can showcase that personality, such as HBO’s 24/7 documentary series that followed the fighters around. Boxing is different from the major sports– you don’t have an automatic “hometown team” to root for. So it’s imperative that non-hardcore fans get a chance to know the fighters and get involved in boxing through the boxers themselves.

However, Villanova rallied back to take the lead, despite another poor game from Scottie Reynolds. The Wildcats’ effort was better than Thursday’s, as they got many points off of St. Mary’s turnovers. The two traded spurts in the final minutes, until they were tied at 65 with under two minutes left.

On personal goals for the year: “I hope to catch balls and just be productive, be involved in every play. That doesn’t mean I have to be catching the ball, even if that means I’m running someone down downfield to make a block downfield. Just be in every play. Be active.

Columbia is on its first three-game winning streak since 1997 and have the highest scoring offense in the Ivy League. It has not won in Philadephia, however, since 1995.

Experts And Clowns: Discussing The 2008 Ncaa Tournament

Anthony Kyser ran down an alley after shoplifting the item and he was soon cornered by the store manager. On the offensive line: “I think we need to have significant improvement there over last year and over the spring.
Villanova came into the 2010-11 season ranked No. 1 in the Big East by Athlon Sports. This high ranking comes one season after the Wildcats won the most games in franchise history (24) but still lost in the second round of the March Madness college basketball tournament to Saint Mary’s. While Villanova was expected to be highly competitive for the second season in a row, they still play in the Big East.

In the end, Scottie Reynolds won it for the Wildcats on a play that will also be talked about for years. With relative ease he drove to the basket with 0.5 seconds left to make it 78-76. Although the Panthers Levance Fields would toss a 60-foot shot that hit the basket as time expired, Reynolds play all but punched the Wildcats ticket to the Final Four.

In a way he’s right, but in another way, he’s masking over what was a black eye for the program and for the university. So, as always, winning can solve all problems. It won’t come against Penn State, but if it comes against Buffalo, I’m not sure how many people are going to remember Villanova. The Owls would be 1-0 in the MAC, and everything will be right with the Temple world. For one week.

Watch out for the West Coast Conference champ, which will be either Gonzaga, a name we’re all familiar with, or Saint Mary’s, a name you’ve heard but not in basketball. SM owns the tiebreaker with a win over the Zags, and will be in prime position for the easier path later. They also have a win against a top-25 school, whereas Gonzaga is 0-4 against that category. Whoever wins the automatic bid will receive decent seeding, and possibly a favorable game. I think Saint Mary’s has a shot to be playing more than two halves.

I think that, although they’ve done okay, West Virginia hasn’t made any headlines of late, and that’s because they haven’t played well enough. Losing by 1 to Georgetown and Pittsburgh shows they’ve got toughness, but haven’t been able to close it down the stretch. And that ugly loss to Cincinnati kind of hurt, too.

Life in the SEC is no picnic, either. Tennessee is the clear favorite, which of course I have no problems with. But they’ve lost to Kentucky, won by 2 at LSU, and escaped vs. Mississippi State earlier this year. Florida is young and inconsistent, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are slipping a bit, and Vanderbilt doesn’t seem to have the firepower to take down the Vols high-octane shooting style. Chris Lofton explodes and gives my reason to celebrate.

The medical examiner ruled the shoplifter’s death a homicide after the store manager choked him. No charges were filed by police. Kyser’s mother has filed a civil lawsuit and the case is pending.

Soccer Tournament To Benefit Local Foundation

The Media 5-Miler has a rich history in area running circles. Boxing is different from the major sports– you don’t have an automatic “hometown team” to root for. But that’s not all the hurdles the Utah women are leaping this season.
The Maryland Terrapins seemed to have all but wrapped up Arizona’s Sean Miller for their head coaching position before being spurned by him at the last minute.

While Harangody earned his second First Team All-Big East selection upon the conclusion of the 2008-09 season, Butler was named to league’s second team, Vaughn a third-team selection and Reynolds an honorable mention selection.

After playing a relatively easy non-conference schedule, the Bearcats were thrown into the lions den of the Big East with road games at Villanova and Syracuse (both ranked in the top ten). Next up for Cincinnati is another road game against a ranked Big East opponent when UC travels to South Bend, Ind. to take on No. 16 Notre Dame.

Zac: Absolutely not. 23 months is a complete joke. What Vick did is completely disgusting and reprehensible. With that said, Michael Vick did not harm a human being one bit. We all know why that judge gave him 23 months and it has nothing to do with dogs.

But that’s not all the hurdles the Utah women are leaping this season. In this morning’s game, your ESPN2 commentators in three-piece suits and blouses leaned up against a microphone and decided it was their turn to hammer on Utah.

Before the skeptics start knocking a kid who averaged just 8.5 points and 3.7 assists, while shooting at a 45.0% clip and only 30.7% from 3-point range, consider this: The 19-year-old Holiday, much like the Sixers unexpected 2007 selection of Georgia Tech freshman Thaddeus Young, is a player only beginning to scratch the surface of his potential.

Finally, we head to the heartlands, where the state of Kansas has been hoppin’ thanks to big years from both State and U. The Big 12 has enjoyed good years from Texas, Texas A&M, and even Baylor (who? :wink. Texas has been the big boy recently, improving to 4-2 against the AP top 25 with a victory over 3rd-ranked Kansas yesterday. But who can go against the Jayhawks come tournament time? They’ll be playing for a #1 seed, and Kansas will get it by romping their way to a big win over Texas in the final.

Georgetown is battle tested and looking for a return to the Final Four. Louisville fought the Hoyas hard on the road this past Saturday, making the Cardinals the biggest threat to Georgetown this week. But rising teams like Notre Dame and West Virginia, plus traditional powers like Uconn and Syracuse, will provide severe challenges to them. Still, Georgetown and Louisville are on track for a Big East championship showdown. If they succeed, Georgetown’s experience and stifling defense should give them a second straight Big East title, and momentum for their quest to take the next step in the NCAA tournament.

Ncaa College Basketball 2010 Top Longshot Potential Winners!

Why add another that does not improve your roster tremendously? Penn State Dickinson (ranked 77) had a 3.6 median G.P.A. and a 158 median LSAT score. Duke stands above all others as the No. 1 seed, especially with Villanova gone.
St. Mary’s College has lived in the shadows for a while now. For years, St. Mary’s College has been best known as the West Coast Conference’s best team other than Gonzaga. While the Zags have piled up NCAA tournament bids and upsets for 10 years, the Gaels have toiled in the background while making NCAA tournaments of their own. However, they had not won any March games until two days ago against Richmond. Yet St. Mary’s College is no longer the other WCC power, after they won their second NCAA tournament game against Villanova.

On what people should expect from this year’s team: “It’s just a new team. We’re not going to be settling for just staying close with everyone. I’m thinking win every game and I’m hoping everybody else feels that way.

On his expectations for his defense: “Here’s what we need, we need the guys to play with tremendous effort every single game. Our focus really right now is on putting one good practice together at a time. We’ve got some experience; the strength of the defense is up front, clearly. There are three guys who’ve played a lot for us in C.J. Herbert, Sean Lissemore and Adrian Tracy. There are a lot of experienced guys out there who understand what the expectations from Coach Laycock are and what the expectations from the defensive staff are. Giving great effort, flying to the football and playing William and Mary defense is what we’re looking for the guys to do.

Then, to make matters worse, your commentators led by ex-Tennessee star Kara Lawson said the Utes had no chance against Villanova — albeit a No. 8 seed playing us at No. 9 — from the big, bad Big East, for the Wildcats can shoot the three.

On his expectations going in to the year: “We’ve got a number of players returning and a lot of players who have worked very, very hard in preparation for this year. We had a good year last year and I think it’s one our players really want to build on so we’ll take off and go from there. But we’ll see. We’ll see how we develop and how fast we come along.

Brian: I have no idea what the correct punishment is in this case. The main thing I was interested in seeing was Vick serving more than token jail time, and I certainly think this fits that bill. Now I look forward to the rehabilitation of Vick. I think it would be a wonderful thing if he spent the rest of his life going to schools in disadvantaged areas telling kids how he had the world on a string and pissed it all away because he continued to embrace thug culture.

For boxing to get anywhere near the place it used to hold in sports it will have to start taking chances and doing creative things to promote the sport like UFC does. They can start by unifying all these ridiculous organizations and belts. If the UFC can buy Japan’s Pride fighting then these organizations can eventually work something out that will benefit the sport.

Ncaa 2009 Final Four Predictions: North Carolina, Uconn, Villanova And — Maybe — Kansas

The NCAA tournament opening day always brings anticipation, hopes for upsets, and last-minute bracket work. Jake Trantin’s played a lot of football for us and we’re going to move him to middle full time.
In a successful night for the Big East, nine players from the conference were selected in the 2009 NBA Draft. Just three years ago, 11 players from the Big East were selected, but this year marks the second highest total since the draft moved to two rounds.

They couldn’t, leaving some gaping holes on a roster that won’t start getting filled until after next Wednesday’s start of free agency. “I have no idea who’ll be our point guard,” admitted team president Ed Stefanski, who plans to open talks with free agent Andre Miller at that time. “but we drafted a kid with a big, big upside.

For the first-team selections, the Big East coaches (who could not vote for their own players) named Notre Dame senior forward Luke Harangody (who was also tabbed as the preseason Player of the Year); Cincinnati senior guard Deonta Vaughn; West Virginia senior forward Da’Sean Butler; Georgetown sophomore center and reigning Big East Rookie of the Year Greg Monroe; Villanova senior guard Scottie Reynolds; and the 6’6″ Hayward (a tie in the balloting created six positions).

On the CAA South: “You try to just become as good as you can be. You know you’re going to be challenged, you know that’s going to be happening so you have got to get better in preseason. I mean we’ve got to play Virginia in the first ballgame so we’re going to have to be pretty far along when we play that one. But we just prepare to try to be as good as we can be and you understand you’ve got to develop depth. You can’t just expect one guy to do it all the time. You’ve got to develop depth and you’ve got to understand what your strengths are and work on them.

I’m picking the Pac-10 champion, whether it be the Bruins or the Cardinal, and then the fourth goes to Kansas. After all, the Jayhawks only two losses are to current ranked teams.

Kurz gave Villanova the lead again, 47-46, with a three point play at the 1:06 mark. After Nova’s Siobhan O’Connor hit a pair of free throws to push the Wildcats lead to three points, Seton Hall sophomore Ebonie Williams sank a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 49-48 with 15.8 seconds left. In between two pairs of free throws by O’Connor was a traveling call on Williams which essentially ended any hopes Seton Hall had.

Ncaa Men’s Soccer Wrap: Big Weekend Is Almost Here For Maryland, Georgetown

The Wildcats need a good showing in the tournament this year if they ever want to shake the title of underachievers. For example, Villanova law school’s (ranked 61) student to faculty ratio is 18:1.

In a successful night for the Big East, nine players from the conference were selected in the 2009 NBA Draft. Just three years ago, 11 players from the Big East were selected, but this year marks the second highest total since the draft moved to two rounds.

Nick Meyer: Quite frankly, I’m having a hard time not throwing in a Steven A. Smith joke right now. But as for the fight, I didn’t watch it and I had never heard of Hatton before the week of the fight. Whoever is in charge of promoting boxing needs to do a better job of it because the general public has no clue who most of these guys are or who the top contenders and up-and-comers are.

The Terps would also be crazy not to consider Rob Ehsan at this point. Ehsan would be able to keep the same staff in place, and who is to say he won’t be the next big thing? Brad Stevens was a nobody until he was promoted to head coach by Butler.

This was taking place while the Utes were ahead by the score of 17-4 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Were they watching the same game? Utah was dominating Villanova, yet in a feeble attempt to get better ratings you still threw Utah under the bus, as if the team barely existed.

Out West, in the Pac-10, you have another cluttered up race. Washington State has fallen from glory quickly, though is still a threat and ranked for a reason. USC has been up-and-down.after all, they did lose to Mercer early. Oregon has been good, but not great. It all comes down to Stanford vs. UCLA, and Kevin Love is the difference here. He’ll manage a double-double as the Bruins take the conference crown by 3.

On the offensive line: “They always look out for each other. Like if the offense is a unit, they’ve got to work all together and I think that’s a good thing because you can’t have anything without the line. Passing, running-nothing.

A.J. Price, Indiana (#52) – Last but not least, Price rounds out this year’s Big East draft class. Price might be able to crack the team as a backup point guard, but that’s the best case scenario for the UConn standout. What he lacks in athleticism and explosiveness, Price makes up with great poise and ability to get his shot off. After suffering setback after setback in college, it’s great to see Price get drafted, even this low.

Women’s Big East Basketball Weekly Honor Roll February 4

Villanova has a very high-powered offense working for them this season, which averages 85 points per game. What Vick did is completely disgusting and reprehensible. Tennessee is the clear favorite, which of course I have no problems with.
The March Madness schedule 2010 finally starts this afternoon. On the March Madness schedule, there are three games airing just after noon, four more in the mid-afternoon, and four each at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The NCAA tournament opening day always brings anticipation, hopes for upsets, and last-minute bracket work. This is the closest thing to a national holiday for college basketball fans, but the actual games have to live up to the hype as well. Today’s March Madness schedule 2010 features favorites, upset minded teams, and hopefully a lot of real madness.

DePaul finished last in the Big East in scoring by a wide margin last season as the Blue Demons averaged just 61 points per game. New coach Oliver Purnell has implemented his trademark fast-paced style to the Blue Demons in his first year, however, and a pair of freshmen have helped DePaul average 71.5 points through 15 games. Forward Cleveland Melvin has been named Big East Rookie of the Week in back-to-back weeks and is averaging 23.3 points in three league games. Overall, Melvin has averaged 12.7 points per game, while rookie Brandon Young has averaged 12.6 ppg to rank as the top two freshman scorers in the conference.

Villanova is a team I have loved all season long because they aren’t afraid of anyone and play very tough defensively. I actually think the Wildcats have the advantage in the low post in the matchup of Daunte Cunningham vs. Tyler Hansbrough.

On whether he sets personal numerical goals: “I mean you can have great numbers and have a terrible season. You can have great numbers but go 0-10. For me to value my season on numbers wouldn’t be fair to the team. As long as I’m talking about winning the game, that’s the biggest thing. We want to get to the playoffs, win the playoffs and get rings. We want to do things that involve the whole entire team.

Nick: I was going to say an old Lakers-Celtics or Pistons-Lakers game from the 80’s but I’ll stick with boxing after watching that fight live the other night and being impressed with how electric the atmosphere was.

I know this may come as a surprise to some, but I think the Rams should be avoiding the position tonight at all costs. The reason I say this is because the players that they are picking from all project as nothing more than number two wide receivers at best. You can make the case that with Donnie Avery, Danny Amendola, Danario Alexander, Laurent Robinson, Brandon Gibson and Mardy Gilyard that the entire roster is filled with second, third and fourth wide receivers. Why add another that does not improve your roster tremendously?

A balanced scoring attack and a bench that can put up a lot of points are led by senior guard Scottie Reynolds for Villanova. He put up 27 points against Georgetown in their first meeting and will look to duplicate that on Saturday. The threesome of Austin Freeman, Greg Monroe, and Chris Wright will have to be in top form if they want to stop Villanova in their tracks. The first game finished 82 to 77 in favor of Villanova, and we have no reason to expect that this next game won’t be high scoring as well.

Pitt Gets A Break With Next Year’s Big East Basketball Schedule

Anybody from a stacked-for-a-mid-major-conference Atlantic 10 can make some noise. But you never want to put a lot of pressure on a kid. It may be unfair to bash Anderson before he hires a new coach, but the search has been a disaster thus far.
Welcome back to the only text-based adventure on the Intranets that never ceases to entertain: AC’s very own flagship sporting tit-for-tat-fest that goes by the name of Sportswriters, Experts, & Clowns.

Earl Clark, Phoenix (#14) – I know Clark was picked ahead of some of these guys, but he is still an enigma to me. The 6-9 forward is versatile and athletic, but is very inconsistent and disappeared at times during his three seasons at Louisville. When at his best, the Rahway, N.J. product can really do it all, but I don’t trust guys who don’t have high motors all the time. This could be a steal for the Suns at #14, but it also wouldn’t surprise me if he was a big bust. I can’t really say that about any of the people ahead of him on this list.

The need at defensive tackle continues to be high for the Rams as they head into Day 2. The Draft is considered deep at the position, which should play into the Rams hands. A couple of the names you will see are Marvin Austin, who was Robert Quinn’s teammate at UNC, Steven Paea from Oregon State, Jarvis Jenkins from Clemson and Drake Nevis from LSU. The Rams need help and I would be surprised if they pass on DT tonight in both rounds.

Where does Maryland turn now? Jamie Dixon appears to be staying put. Jay Wright would be a tremendous pickup at this point, but it seems like he is likely to remain at Villanova.

On what leadership means: “A lot of times you get put in bad situations on defense and you need someone with a vocal presence on the field. Or if it is a tight game, certain situations you need a guy who says ‘Hey we’ve been here before, let’s go.'” But also on the practice field and also in the meetings, showing some of these younger guys how to do things and the right way to do things.

If boxing had just one sanctioning body and between five and seven weight classes, I think there would be an increase in interest. Of course it would help to get rid of promoters like Bob “Yesterday I was lying but today I’m telling the truth” Arum and Don King and have judges who weren’t on the take, but we could live with those things if there was only one true champion in each class and few enough classes to make remembering the champs easier.

Here’s a look at the teams who have passed into the 2010 Sweet Sixteen, along with all match-ups and times of play. Sweet Sixteen NCAA tournament action will take place March 25-26.
